PRESIDENT ELECT'S CORNER

Michael Wills

Did you know that Scottsdale Leadership is one of the last in-person, all-day fully immersive leadership programs left standing here in the Valley? Not only are we still here, we are getting better every step of the way! This is the result of tireless work from our amazing staff and alumni through the last couple of difficult years. We have continued to create and encourage community leaders throughout the city. However, most importantly, we foster a connection among people who have the common goal of making Scottsdale a better place to live.

This year I am honored to be “on deck” so to speak, serving as your President Elect. In this role my focus will be to help our Board grow as individuals and as an organization. Our relationships with staff, alumni, and the current class are vital to Scottsdale Leadership’s prolonged success. I assure you that none of these relationships are taken for granted and we will strive to continue strengthening all of them! We are coming off a year of great momentum and our Board is ready to keep that going with Lee Ann Witt as Executive Director and Sarah Kearney as Board President. Our committees are full of enthusiastic and talented alumni and they have been cultivating creative ideas around events, fundraising, Core Program improvements, and new ways to assist staff. If you have been actively engaged with us, we can’t thank you enough! If you have been away for a while but are looking to get involved again, now is the time! Call or email me! (480-227-9967 or azmichaelwills@gmail.com) Our calendar is full of events that we hope you will attend. And speaking of events, we have one coming right up. Come out and join us for an evening of fun at Maverix on the 17th. RSVP below. If I haven’t met you yet, I hope that changes soon! If we are already friends, I guess I’ll thank Scottsdale Leadership for that. Cheers to a great year and to Class 37! Michael Wills President Elect Class 33

MEET YOUR BOARD MEMBER

Colleen Katz, Community Events Chair

I am Colleen Katz of Class 34 - Like Never Before, and I am honored to be this year's Chair of Community Events.

We can all find a reason to celebrate, that’s why CELEBRATE is our 22nd Annual Spirit of Community Awards Luncheon theme! This fun filled event is Friday, December 9th at JW Marriot Camelback Inn. Check-in begins at 11:00 with the program starting promptly at noon. (Hint: Plans are in the works for a little after party so try to get that afternoon off.)

Gather your classmates and fill a table! This will be an afternoon you won’t want to miss. We've already started collecting fabulous items for our silent auction which will be accessed online, just as we did last year.

I am fortunate to work with Christine Haas as Vice Chair of Community Events. She brings her event planning experience as well as her knowledge as a past chair to the table. We have wonderful Luncheon committee chairs who will be reaching out to build their team. Say yes if they call because we are going to have a great time.

We are looking for auction items and exciting experiences. Contact Becca Linning at Becca@imbeccablerealestate.com to donate.

This year we have many levels from which to choose for our Corporate Sponsorship package, including a small business level for only $500.00. Contact Jim Kollenda at jimjkaz@gmail.com for more information. Tickets are available now. Get yours today.

We promise that you will leave with a smile on your face and a party in your heart. Join us to...Celebrate Good Times...Come On!

SHOUT OUT! Larry Hewitt, Class 36

Thanks for leading in a time of need, Larry! We mentioned in a previous newsletter about the need for items for seniors during our difficult summer. Larry went to work gathering items and much needed Fry's gift cards. Larry is on the board of Neighbors Helping Neighbors and when he mentioned the need to his board they came up with another $3,500 in gift cards! Good work!

Congratulations are in order for Jim as he received yet another national award from the National Fire Protection Association for his ground breaking work with automatic home fire sprinklers.

"The NFPA Board of Directors was impressed with your efforts in Scottsdale to develop an ordinance that is still a model for local fire safety legislation 35 years later. Working tirelessly with NFPA and HSFC, you’ve helped to educate civilians and first responders, along with policymakers, about the importance of home fire sprinklers. Your leadership and the outcomes in Scottsdale continue to be a model for others to follow." ~ Jim Pauley, President and CEO National Fire Protection Association.
