Executive Director's Corner

Greetings!

The other day when it dropped to 108 degrees, I almost felt chilly!  We are breaking records across the country, especially here in Arizona.  Scottsdale Leadership is “on fire” and we cannot wait to get this year started in many “cool ways!”

Class 38 starts off with our first overnight class retreat on August 24-25th, facilitated by “Chief Rock Star” Kristi Staab, Class 25 and now Executive Coach.  Two power-packed days will culminate in revealing Class 38 at our Welcome Reception on August 25th.  This will be our first alumni event of the new year and I hope you will join us to give a big, warm welcome to our newest Class 38.

We have several alumni events planned.  Mark your calendars now for our SL Alumni networking event on September 27th.  In podcast style, Mike Baer, Class 35, will kick off this event by sharing “Your Network is your Net Worth”.  As Mike is a prominent storyteller with hilarious stories, you will not want to miss this opportunity.

Your support is invaluable, both financially and with your involvement.  Our new fiscal year began July 1st, which kicked off our Active Alumni Donor Dues campaign. It’s been a “hot response” so far and we thank you.  We are here to “break some records” of our own and I encourage you to become an Active Donor today. It allows us to forge new paths and programs, offering all alumni a complete menu of engagement opportunities.

Breaking news…nominations are now open for the Hodges Alumni Achievement Award and the Drinkwater Community Leadership Award.  Both awards honor passionate and committed leaders who have made a significant contribution to our community.   Our Jenkins Youth Leadership Award is open to all Junior and Senior high school students living in Scottsdale.  All nominations are due September 20th.

Award finalists will be celebrated at our Spirit of Community Awards Annual Luncheon on December 8th at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess.  Early bird tickets will go on sale September 5th.  This is our signature event that you will not want to miss!

You may notice something new in our newsletter this month… a newsletter sponsorship. Thank you, Sacks Tierney P.A., for becoming our first newsletter sponsor.  Please contact me at leeann@scottsdaleleadership.org if interested in becoming a sponsor.  We boast a 66% open rate!

I look forward to “chillin’” with you at the August 25th Welcome Reception!

Alleson Dunaway, Class 31
Community Events Committee

Alleson.jpg

Hello Everyone!

I am Alleson Dunaway of Class 31 (Forever 31!), the Director of Partner Development at Experience Scottsdale. I am excited to be this year's chair of the Community Events Committee! I am honored to be heading up the team responsible for creating this year's highly anticipated Spirit of Community Awards Luncheon, a special event that brings our community together and lifts our spirits as we celebrate those who have created a lasting legacy in our city.

I am fortunate to be working alongside the incredibly talented and dedicated Stephanie Tippett of Class 36, as well as the outstanding group of volunteers who make up our committee. Together, we are embarking on a journey to make this Luncheon an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

Our theme for this year's Luncheon is "Together We Grow," a tribute to the collective growth and achievements of our community over the years, and for years to come. As part of the festivities, we have an exciting Class Table Contest coming up where each class can highlight their camaraderie by sponsoring a table in their Class Name, adding an extra layer of fun and friendly competition to the event.

I also want to emphasize the importance of the auction items. Every contribution to the auction plays a crucial role in supporting our community and ensuring the success of the event. So, let's come together and make this year's auction an overwhelming success, making a lasting impact on the causes we hold dear. Stephanie will be sharing more details about how you can be part of the success of the auction in next month's newsletter.

So, mark your calendars, as the Luncheon will take place on Friday, December 8th at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. TICKETS ON SALE SOON! Thank you all for being a part of this amazing community. I can't wait to see each  of you on December 8th. Let's make it a day filled with joy, celebration, and meaningful  connections.

Volunteers Needed

Community Impact on Trsp.png

Help people who are experiencing homelessness feel dignified and respected.

The city of Scottsdale operates a Day Relief Center that provides people experiencing homelessness with meals, showers, hygiene products, clothing, and navigators who help them connect with additional services. Around 10-25 people visit the Day Relief Centers every week. We are looking for volunteers to help with set-up and break-down, shower trailer operations (providing hygiene products/towels, spraying down the showers after each use), making and packing sandwiches, sorting donations, and packing and distributing hygiene items.

Volunteers are needed at:

Vista Del Camino located at 7700 E Roosevelt St

on Fridays from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Shifts will be a minimum of two hours.
