The Frank W. Hodges Alumni Achievement Award, presented by Prestige Cleaners, recognizes Linda Milhaven. A long-time Scottsdale resident, Milhaven is a successful businesswoman in the banking industry with an MBA from Columbia University. Milhaven’s participation in Scottsdale Leadership Class XIII helped support her service with the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as board chair for two terms. Milhaven played an instrumental role when the Chamber reorganized, which resulted in the formation of an independent Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau. Milhaven has received recognition for her community leadership in Scottsdale including awards from the Scottsdale Education Foundation and Scottsdale Unified School District. Today, Milhaven serves as the Board Chair for the Scottsdale Cultural Council, is a STARS board member and serves as a Scottsdale City Commissioner.
The Drinkwater Leadership Award, presented by Merrill Lynch, recognizes Marc Miller. Miller's civic involvement in Scottsdale can be traced back to the early 1980s. A certified public accountant, Miller's trade has served him well in his leadership roles for a variety of non-profit organizations and advisory boards. As president of the Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary, Miller and club members worked diligently to make McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park accessible to children and adults with disabilities. Sunrise Rotary’s annual Special Day for Special Kids experienced remarkable growth under Miller’s tenure and today attracts more than 2,000 participants. Miller served as patrón of Scottsdale Charros, and three terms as president with the Scottsdale Artists' School, where he led the organization through a critical transition period. Miller further contributed to the community through his work with the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Scottsdale Cultural Endowment Advisory Board. Currently, Miller serves on the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society board and is a member of the Scottsdale Charros Community Foundation investment committee.
The Youth Leadership Award, presented by Scottsdale Active 20-30 Foundation, recognizes Benjamin Johnson. Johnson, a senior at Desert Mountain High School, plays saxophone in the marching and jazz bands and is a goalie for the Desert Mountain Club lacrosse team. As an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America Troop 440, Johnson led a project that resulted in the donation of more than 550 children’s DVDs and 42 portable DVD players to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Johnson looks forward to attending the University of Arizona in the fall of 2010 and ultimately hopes to become a doctor. Johnson’s award includes a $1500 college scholarship.
Corporate Leadership Award, presented by Henkel Consumer Goods Inc, recognizes APS. As one of the largest corporations headquartered in Arizona, APS embraces its responsibility to serve the communities in which its employees live, work and play. APS views community stewardship as an ongoing strategic effort to make Arizona a better place. APS employees donate more than 150,000 volunteer hours every year and more than 350 APS employees serve on non-profit boards. Specifically in Scottsdale, APS has been a long-time supporter of the McDowell Sonoran Conversancy, Scottsdale Leadership and the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce and has sponsored countless community events including Community Celebrating Diversity Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner, Scottsdale Hispanic Heritage Celebration and Empty Bowls. Last year, APS awarded the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy a $100,000 grant to start a children’s camp for environmental awareness. APS’s investment in the community ensures we can all experience a better tomorrow, today.
